Awards and qualifications are what keep a professional photographer on their toes, in our personal opinion. It doesn't do to become complacent after all.
Julie and I are always striving to improve, even though we have won several awards that only encourages us to try harder!
We belong to two professional bodies The Master Photographers Association, and the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers.
Why be a member you ask? Because not only have we got access to some of the best photographers in the world, they also give help and honest advice and mentoring so we can always improve.
Julie and I have a saying "Change is inevitable - Progress is optional".

Ray and Julie must be congratulated for producing many superb and very interesting images to win this years Master Photographers Yorkshire Region Annual Awards. The images, spread over several genre of photography, having success with individual titles awards, many finalist awards, all of which led to receiving the highest accolade of the evening by achieving the overall title Photographer of the Year for the Yorkshire Region. Their successes were given the audiences approval with loud applause. Best wishes Ray and Julie.
As MPA President it was my great privilege to act as head judge for the Master Photographers association Northern Region Annual Awards. The standard was probably the highest I have ever seen in a regional competition and indeed, in my opinion was at a standard usually only judged at the national level. Two of the shining stars of the evening were Ray and Julie Dixon. They won 12 awards in total across several different categories with 4 highly commended awards and an outright winner in the Under 5s Portrait and Landscape categories. To win this number of awards in different categories shows a depth of ability and talent for photography which is rarely seen anywhere in the UK. Their work is exceptional! well done both Ray and Julie!
