MASTER PHOTOGRAPHER ASSOCIATION | BEVERLEY TOWN CENTER STUDIO

WE HAVE ONLY GONE AND WON STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR!!!

Every year the Master Photographers Association (MPA) has a regional and national print competition. We would normally go to Castleford where we meet as members of the Yorkshire region and the to Jury’s Inn Hinkley for the nationals. However, due to COVID-19 things had to be done a little differently. This year the regional competition was held via Zoom…

WHY ENTER THE PRINT AWARDS

The print awards are an opportunity for qualified and unqualified members of the MPA to showcase their work, both regionally and nationally. It is a level playing field as all images entered are only numbered (no names) this way the judges do not know who the image belongs to. It is basically a chance to see how your images compare against other like-minded photographers of varying standards.

THE JUDGE

The judge this year was our MPA President Su Kaye. Based in Hertfordshire, Su has worked as a photographer for the last 20 years and has achieved Fellowship with the Master Photographers Association (MPA) and the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP). She was also a member of the elite Kodak Gold Circle, specialising in top quality portrait, travel, commercial and illustrative photography, it was an honour for her to judge our region.

THE REGION

The region is made up of North, South, West and East Yorkshire (God’s own county) AKA the known world… The professional members cover lots of genres of photography, with varying levels of qualifications from Licentiate to Fellowship. We also have new unqualified up and coming members.

THE COMPETITION

The competition was strongly contested this year, as due to circumstances (COVID-19) every member was allowed 10 free entries. In the Yorkshire area nearly every member entered, which made for a better competition. We watched in anticipation via Zoom in our viewing gallery, with gin and tonic and a beer in hand. Julie and I are really pleased to announce we have won Studio Photographer of the Year 2020. This is a massive achievement considering the portrait category was one of the largest entered categories. Congratulations to all that entered the competition.

We are very proud to say, all barring two photographs we entered, were captured for clients, and not intentionally captured to enter for the competition. We always try to exceed our client’s expectations, and it is brilliant that our effort has been recognised by our professional awarding body. Su said it was great to see the variety of our images, all of a high standard.

FINALLY

A massive thank you to everyone that has chosen us to capture their memories. A big thank you to the MPA, especially those within our region who work away quietly behind the scenes. Thank you also James, Kevin, Lawrence and Maria. Finally the biggest thank you goes to my beautiful wife, who is always there (maybe not at 4 am whilst photographing landscapes) with her input and style I LOVE YOU xx
